It has been a busy 24 hours since training camps opened around the league.

CHRIS PAUL trade killed by the league owned New Orleans Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets appealed to the NBA office on Friday morning to try to convince David Stern to drop his veto of Chris Paul’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

League officials in New York listened to pleas from several Hornets and Rockets officials, but eventually closed down communication.

“I think they were bothered by the backlash, but it’s hard to tell,” one front-office source said.

NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed the Hornets’ proposed trade of Chris Paul.

Stern killed the Hornets’ trade of Paul after several owners complained about the league-owned team dealing the All-Star point guard to the Lakers, league sources said.

Blazers’ BRANDON ROY to retire

Brandon Roy has been one of my favorite players and 2 guards in the league, and probably the only reason I started watching the Trailblazers play the past few seasons.

PORTLAND, Ore. — All-Star guard Brandon Roy has told Portland he plans on retiring because of ongoing trouble with his knees.

A five-year veteran who helped the team shed its “Jail Blazers” reputation, Roy has been dogged by pain for the past two seasons. He has said in the past that he lacks cartilage between the bones in both knees.

Acting general manager Chad Buchanan said the Trail Blazers were still looking at their options concerning Roy, including the amnesty clause in the NBA’s new labor agreement.

NY Knicks moving forward to get TYSON CHANDLER, amnesty BILLUPS

And it is happening — the New York Knicks will signTyson Chandler today tweets Howard Beck at theNew York Times. The Knicks will use the amnesty clause on Chauncey Billups and will trade Ronny Turiaf to create cap space to sign Chandler. The Turiaf trade is still pending — there are multiple offers out there and all sides (including Turiaf’s agent) expect a deal to get done soon.

This will bring one of the two best defensive centers in the NBA (along with Dwight Howard) to the Knicks, protecting the rim behind Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Also, it gives the Knicks some interesting half-court offensive options as Chandler is a good big on the high pick-and-roll (just ask Chris Paul).
